CSOs URGED TO HARMONIZE EFFORTS IN FIGHTING COVID-19

A call has gone out to Civil Society Organisations in the Country to join hands and mitigate effects of COVID-19 Pandemic in the country. These sentiments came from Chairperson of Human Rights Consultative Committee Mr. Robert Mkwezalamba when he was commending the Country’s President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for coming up with an inclusive Presidential Task force on COVID-19 in which Civil Society Organisations have been highly included.

Whilst praising the president for coming up with an all-encompassing committee on COVID-19, he was quick to point out that CSOs needed to join forces in order to reach remote areas and conduct awareness programmes on the same.

“As CSOs, we need to roll out programmes and reach the remote areas. Focus should be remote areas because immigrants use uncharted routes and are in close contact with these individuals, as such, if not careful people will be dying unknowingly”, explained Mr. Mkwezalamba.

Adding more, Mr. Mkwezalamba appealed to the new task force to serve people well as well as empower their sectors by passing on relevant information as part of continued awareness.

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on May 7, 2020 restructured a special Cabinet Committee on COVID-19 and changed it to a Presidential Task force which comprises of about 21 members from various sectors such as Civil Society Organisations, Chiefs, Political Parties among others.

Cases of COVID-19 are continuing to be on the rise world wide and Malawi has not been spared. The solution for now is to continue following the necessary precautionary measures aiming at curbing the spread of the virus.
