Public Appeal To NGOs and Private Sector For Disaster Assistance

Preamble and context

The Council for NGOs in Malawi, established in 1985 and designated by NGO Act 2000 as a coordinator of NGOs, has a public duty to complement Government efforts in ensuring public welfare. As you are aware the President of the Republic of Malawi, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has declared most parts of the country disaster areas due to the persistent cyclones that have caused flooding and destruction to property rendering most families destitute in affected Districts.

  • Food (ready to be eaten/drunk or ready to be cooked)
  • Tents
  • Clothing, beddings and kitchen utensils
  • Water purification supplies
  • Finances that can be used as raw or converted into goods or services
  • Mosquito nets or other similar materials

In order to facilitate storage and delivery, there is also need for:

  • Warehousing space
  • Transportation
